i Would be interested in taking over maintenance of the fwlogwatch project moving forward as i think that it is a cool idea and would love to see it continue to be updated to support a larger array of log formats and rules

Very good!  I can help with reviews and sponsored uploads, etc.  If you
haven't already, please create an account on Salsa
(https://salsa.debian.org/) so that you can push merge requests, etc.  I
will create a packaging repo on Salsa for collaboration and get the
current package and its history pushed into that repo.
