Hi, I have an AMD Ryzen computer with two displays. xrandr output: Screen 0: minimum 320 x 200, current 5440 x 2160, maximum 16384 x 16384 DisplayPort-0 connected primary 3840x2160+0+0 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 941mm x 529mm HDMI-A-0 connected 1600x1200+3840+0 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 408mm x 306mm fwiw, HDMI-A-0, the smaller display, is adapted from HDMI first to DisplayPort and then to DVI. When booting this machine, plymouth displays the Debian logo in the very lower right edge of the big screen conneted to DisplayPort-0. The entry field that prompts for the LUKS pass phrase is entirely off-screen and invisible, and so is the error message if something goes wrong with unlocking the filesystems. The monitor gets a proper signal formatted for 3840x2160, the native resolution of the panel. On a notebook with a single Full-HD Display (1920x1080), the Debian logo is properly centered, with the LUKS prompt visible. If you can give me ideas about what to try and how to get logs, I can give more information, but at the moment I am kind of at a loss here. Greetings Marc

Hi, I have this issue since upgrading from Bullseye to Bookworm. It was working fine with Bullseye, but now with Bookworm my laptop Plymouth login screen only show up the top left part of the theme image, with the LUKS password entry field not visible (but functional). In my case, it's related to multi-screens support. My laptop has a native 2560x1440 screen, and is connected to an external display also 2560x1440. When I use the laptop alone (no second screen), I use its native resolution. Then on boot Plymouth works fine. When the laptop is connected to the external screen, in order to deal with the different sizes and dpi (problematic on X11, which I use with KDE), I set the laptop screen to 1920x1080. Good enough, and there less pixel density difference. In this case, on boot with Plymouth: 1) The external screen show a proper theme image, with no input field; 2) The laptop screen only show the top-left part of the theme as described. So it seems that the 1920x1080 resolution is applied already when Plymouth starts, and Plymouth is not aware of it and display a 2560x1440 native content, which doesn't fit. So the issue for me looks to be a mismanagement of the screen resolution change. Either this should be done after Plymouth is done, or Plymouth should be aware of it and use the actual resolution and not the native one. For other people having this issue (Marc and Paul): do you also happen to change the screen resolution on the screen where Plymouth has a partial display? Thanks
Actually, my laptop screen resolution configuration should not be relevant: it's a KDE Plasma level setting, not available in an early boot environment (root and home are even on an encrypted volume, not yet mounted). I tried looking into /boot and the initramfs and can't find any sign that the KDE screen setting is somewhat persisted there (but could have missed it). Still: 1) Laptop only: the Plymouth display is fine; 2) External screen connected: the external screen is OK, the Plymouth display on the laptop is truncated. The grub screen resolution configuration doesn't seem to have an effect on this. Thanks.
I have another laptop that works perfectly with the same external screen. Also Bookworm, both up to date, same configurations for Plymouth, initramfs and grub. I checked the initramfs content and couldn't detect a difference related to the display. The laptop with the issue is a Thinkpad X1 gen6, with a 2560x1440 display. The laptop that works fine is a Dell Latitude 7490, 1920x1080 screen. A difference in behavior is that the Latitude shows the same thing on both screens: I can see the LUKS entry field and my input on the external screen too. On the X1 however, the external screen has a fixed image with no input field. The laptop screen is truncated so I can't see the input field, but I assume it's present (I can enter the LUKS password just fine). So it seems Plymouth displays different things on both screens. On Bullseye it didn't behave this way: both screen showed the same thing on the X1 too, with no truncation on the laptop screen. Suggestions on how to troubleshoot this welcomed ;)
There seem to be a race. With a different laptop using a Core Ultra 5 135U, connected by USB-C to two 4k screens, I can see 3 different kind of behavior: 1) OK: both 4K displays show the same as the laptop screen, scaled. Expected Plymouth Breeze theme screen. Rare; 2) Shift/scaling issue: the screen content is OK, but on the laptop it's shifted as if it was a bigger image than the screen, centered. So one can only see the bottom right corner. On both 4K displays the image only uses the top-left corner. Rare; 3) Split: the Plymouth display has a top part, and on the bottom there is the LUKS decryption input and later success message. In this case, both are dissociated: on the 4k screen the regular display is top-left, the LUKS message top-right. On the laptop things are shifted and one can't see much. That's the most common case. On another laptop I'm only ever see (3). This is on Trixie in both cases.
Dear Maintainer, I've been on Trixie for a while and the Debian logo appears to be partially cut off in the new splash screen. This problem didn't happen with the Bookworm splash screen, before it was updated. I have two monitors side by side: the left one is a 1920x1080 display and the right one is a 1600x1200 display. On the left display, the logo doesn't appear at all, but on the right display you can see a piece o the Debian logo at the bottom left corner.
