When using the GTK file selection dialog - for example, from mouse pad - it's possible to start typing a filename and the dialog progressively filters out files that don't match. That works fine on a locally mounted directoy.

When viewing an NFS mounted directory, the filtered results show momentarily (for maybe half a second), and are then hidden and "No Results Found" is displayed. Despite that, if one continues to type more characters, the momentarily-appearing list is clearly being filtered by what is typed, then it's hidden.
