Dear Maintainer,

After this system install, I decided to keep using Nouveau, as the graphics artifacts of the Nvidia proprietory drivers seemed all but gone. However, random freezes are quite frequent (once every few days, typically during more graphically intensive things, like video playback), at which the display completely freezes - no cursor movement, tty switching, brightness control, etc. - but audio continues, in the case of some media playback. I would then force reboot. See below for kernel log snippet.

This coincides with the behaviour described in the following forum post: https://forums.debian.net/viewtopic.php?t=150559. Although it may seem to be a firmware issue, those firmware only provide video acceleration, (https://nouveau.freedesktop.org/VideoAcceleration.html) which should not be related to the freeze. (I haven't installed the extra firmware, but it's mentioned in the forum post that it does not resolve the problem.)

After installing the missing video acceleration firmware according to https://
nouveau.freedesktop.org/VideoAcceleration.html, the freeze occurred again.
Consistent with my hypothesis earlier, it's not a matter of missing optional
firmware.

kern.log immediately before forced shutdown, this time without "missing"
firmware (last bit was somehow cut off):

it's a kernel bug, you're not even using the nouveau X driver (which is
correct)
