Dear maintainer,

This package is among the few (1.9%) that still use source format 1.0 in
bookworm. Please upgrade it to source format 3.0, as (1) this format has many
advantages, as documented in https://wiki.debian.org/Projects/DebSrc3.0 ; (2)
this contributes to standardization of packaging practices.

Please note that this is also a sign that the packaging of this software
could maybe benefit from a refresh. It might be a good opportunity to
look at other aspects as well.

This package is a native package, so the likely target is 3.0 (native), not
3.0 (quilt).

This mass bug filing was discussed on debian-devel@:
https://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2022/03/msg00074.html

Thanks

Lucas

Hi, Bastian. Thanks for working to improve Debian.

I'm the usual sponsor for this package. I've consulted Simon Tathan,
the maintainer, and, I'm afraid that we will be cancelling this NMU
(by making a no-change upload with a higher version number).

Our reasons are:

 * The NMU involves changing to source format "3.0 (quilt)".
"3.0 (quilt)" is a troublesome format with unfortunate properties
that complicate source code management. For example, we don't want
   an in-tree debian/patches/.

 * Indeed, I don't agree with the the original decision to make
a mass bug filing. There was a debate before the Technical
   Committee:
https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=1007717
https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=1007717#384
Were you aware of this when you did your NMU ? I think it would
   have been on debian-devel-announce.

We (Simon and I) would like to switch to `3.0 (native)`. But,
unfortunately, that isn't supportable with a non-native version
because dpkg-source currently rejects it (or at least, did so until
recently). So for now we will be keeping 1.0.

I'm sorry that we (Simon and I) didn't update this bug to reflect our
decision not to switch the source format. This has meant you've done
some wasted work.

Sorry about that. For the avoidance of doubt, we don't bear you any
ill will over this.

Best wishes,
Ian.

That is fine. Please make sure not to have a ubuntu suffix with your new version number.
