I have the same or similar issue again.

Setting the "Expand" behavior in the settings of Playlist does not fix it.

Command line like:

vlc --recursive expand audio

does not solve it either. It always opens the playlist in non-expanded
mode, which heavily influences the likelyhood of the song selection in
Shuffle mode (i.e. if you have many files in the top folder and then
another couple of folders with even more files inside, then it will keep
selecting songs in the main folder only, until it once hits a folder,
only then it is expanded and the content there gets a chance to be
played).

Hi,

The --recursive option controls the handling of directories only, and this is consistent with the built-in documentation. It is not supposed to affect the parsing of playlists in general.

AFAICT, this is working as intended.
