I am the upstream maintainer of libpaper. I have largely rewritten the
package, adding tests and improving the user configuration functionality,
while retaining API compatibility. It also closes most of the bugs currently
open against the package. The only incompatibility is that “paperconf” is
renamed to just “paper” to distinguish it from “paperconfig”. This program
is not used by any libpaper dependency as far as I can see, and I have
submitted documentation patches for the other packages that mention it.
Upstream (including updated Debian packaging):

I have tested the new version of libpaper with all its Debian dependencies,
and it seems to work fine.
I attach a debdiff for my suggested changes. Since this package has seen no
activity for a long time, if I don’t hear anything within 8 days, I shall
submit an ITS bug against it. Of course, I don’t want to step on the current
maintainers’ toes and will be delighted if they would prefer to perform the
update themselves. (The process I am following was suggested by
peb@debian.org.)
Thanks for maintaining libpaper!
