Hi,

The package was split up in several packages. That's
why I did not update it.

Now python-irc needs a lot of packages that are not
part of Debian. This is what I understood.

‘python-irc’ version “15.0.5” declares many dependencies.

A quick glance at the metadata, and the dependency tree of indirect
dependencies, reveals that at least these distributions are required
to build, test, and install the version “15.0.5”:

* inflect
* jaraco.classes
* jaraco.collections
* jaraco.functools (>=1.5)
* jaraco.itertools (>=1.8)
* jaraco.logging
* jaraco.stream
* jaraco.text
* more-itertools
* more-itertools
* pytest (>=2.8)
* pytz
* setuptools-scm (>=1.9)
* six (>=1.7.0)
* tempora (>=1.6)

Some are already in Debian, many are not.

if I might bump this bug report.
Next week, the current version will be 5 years old, and it misses some
intersting features, like the support for asyncio.

I'm pretty sure there's a simple way to package all the modules needed
by the new version of irc.

Best regards,
Celelibi

The recent upstream versions depend on additional Python libraries
that are not yet packaged in Debian.

Thanks for asking. This is tracked in Debian bug#783396.

As described in that bug report, many new dependencies have arisen for
the upstream ‘irc’ library in recent versions.

I am creating new WNPP bug reports for the dependencies that are not
yet in Debian.

Howdy Alexandre,

I am struggling with the current state of Python packaging in Debian. It is
a complex system with so many abstractions and little guidance! The manual
pages discuss in detail all the options and environment variables, but I
always get lost on *what* happens when, and therefore how to debug it when
it's not working.

Currently I have the Debian package built correctly inside the ‘sbuild’
environment:

=====
$ dpkg-deb --contents python3-jaraco.logging_3.4.0-1~pre1_all.deb | cut --characters=49-

What's failing for me is Debian's AutoPkgTest:

=====

So, while the Debian package is built correctly, somehow it is not being
installed for use by AutoPkgTest. Only the two configuration files
(‘pyproject.toml’, ‘pytest.ini’) are installed into the temporary testing
environment; this is default for PyBuild. But it is not copying the actual
Python package to that environment, and so AutoPkgTest ends up running
PyTest with no Python package to test.

Can you investigate and try to troubleshoot what needs to change so
AutoPkgTest gets what it needs?

Hello

I'm lost too

| AttributeError: module 'logging' has no attribute 'INFO' (consider
renaming '/tmp/autopkgtest.Z0SHCo/autopkgtest_tmp/build/logging.py'
| since it has the same name as the standard library module named
'logging' and prevents importing that standard library module)

I tried many different ways but do not know how to do it.
I'm not sure these 4 tiny doctest are worth the extra effort.

I am too, & learning slowly.
1) dropping "Testsuite: autopkgtest-pkg-pybuild"
2) adding debian/tests/control with the correct one-liner

That's a matter of taste; I would not even bother.

Greetings
