However, there is one issue here:

This package is a special case: it is part of the debian-installer, and
therefore covered by a process, which is sometimes called the "l10n machinery"
in the installer team.
This process merges all the translation material from all installer
packages (these are ~100 packages !) into one structure: that's the "d-i"
repository [1] with its sublevel1/sublevel2/sublevel3/... directories,
containing all the po files for all languages, for the whole
installer.

The reason for this process is: translators need to work on one repository
only instead of working on ~100 separate packages!
In fact, there is one po file per sublevel, so every translator has to work
on 5 po files.
(You can find translation statistics per language at
https://d-i.debian.org/l10n-stats/translation-status.html.)

To avoid situations like this, where translators are working on the "wrong"
file, we have added big fat warnings in all the po files of the d-i
packages like this:

========= snip ====================
# THIS FILE IS GENERATED AUTOMATICALLY FROM THE D-I PO MASTER FILES
# The master files can be found under packages/po/
#
# DO NOT MODIFY THIS FILE DIRECTLY: SUCH CHANGES WILL BE LOST
#
# Spanish messages for debian-installer.

========= snap ====================

So, I wonder why you did not saw this warning?
It should have saved you from working on the wrong file, I think.

Where did you get the po file from, which you used for you translation
work?
Did this file have this warning or not?

For this bugreport, I have merged your changings into the d-i repository here:
https://salsa.debian.org/installer-team/d-i/-/commit/11a22060f73a1bffb98a2bb233ff736d725853d2

And this way your translation will find its way into the partman-hfs
package tomorrow.

No need to worry too much about this... :-)

Greetings

Holger

I see.

My eyes are not as good they used to be (time goes by) but I don't
remember that BIG warning in the PO file.

I'm not engaged with PO files other than those from PO-DEBCONF project
so I always get the files from here:

https://www.debian.org/international/l10n/po-debconf/es

And that specific file I grabbed it from here:

https://i18n.debian.org/material/po/unstable/contrib/p/partman-hfs/debian/po/partman-hfs_2_templates.pot.gz

Not sure what has happened.

Well, thank you.
I just hope nobody complaints...

Cheers,

You are right, there is no such warning in the pot file you used.
The warnings are only in the po files.
Thus no issue on your side!

The main problem is: why does
https://www.debian.org/international/l10n/po-debconf/es
not list the already existing (and partly translated) po file for Catalan?
I don't know...

That's good :-)

Well, Catalan and Spanish are different languages, thus «ca» locale
files are listed under its own site:

https://www.debian.org/international/l10n/po-debconf/ca

And partman-hs is on there:

https://i18n.debian.org/material/po/unstable/contrib/p/partman-hfs/debian/po/partman-hfs_2_ca.po.gz

I guess that's right.

Cheers!

Hrrrr, sorry, it was of course complete nonsense me talking
about Catalan here.
I mixed them up, because I pushed a translation for ca before
writing that mail.

Correct would have been:

Why does https://www.debian.org/international/l10n/po-debconf/es
not list the already existing (and partly translated) po file for Spanish?

Or moreover, that site should not list installer packages separately
at all...
The page build process does not cover such special cases though.

I should have guessed something like that, sorry O:-)

I dunno, but I prefer that way.
Let the original traslator takes care of the file.

In fact, I rejected translating PO files from Debian Installation Manual
and stick to Debconf templates to not collide with other translation
members to avoid problems (see my comment #28¹ in Bug #969381).

Now I have been warned the site mixes PO files from several sources, I
will first check the origin of PO file before translating.

Thanks for noticing!

This has been fixed in previous upload (version 3).

Thus closing this bug.
