Hi,

the groups listed in EXTRA_GROUPS should be the same as the ones used by
debian-installer. Currently, d-i adds the following groups:

audio cdrom dip floppy video plugdev netdev scanner bluetooth debian-tor lpadmin

Source: https://salsa.debian.org/installer-team/user-setup/-/blob/master/debian/user-setup-udeb.templates

The default extra groups for a Debian installation should be the same
independent of whether a user is created by adduser or by d-i. Either
d-i should drop some groups or adduser should add some but I don't see a
reason why the set of groups should be different between the two.

Thanks!

cheers, josch

Hi Marc,

Quoting Marc Haber (2022-05-31 11:45:57)

cool. But how does that make you close this bug report? Bug #849265 talks about
removing everything all groups from EXTRA_GROUPS but that doesn't close this
bug. This bug is about there being a difference between the groups added by
debian-installer and the groups added by adduser via extra-groups. You did not
address whether either:

 a) those lists of groups being different is okay and why or

 b) reassigned this bug to debian-installer so that they can add the groups
 that adduser adds

Thanks!
