Package:thunderbird Version:1:102.1.2-1 On my Debian bookworm/sid server, After migrating from Thunderbird:amd64 da 1:91.10.0-1 -> 1:102.1.2-1 I can't see any folder. I can till send mail and the configuration is ok. I've tried everything! Also configure a new user from scratch ... same result. It seems a problem of visualization that comes out when I add a local account to access IMAP mailbox on local server (no problem with gmail account). Any help? Someone else with same problem? Giorgio

The tool repoprtbug would help to collect some more and basic information about your system in case you will write other bug reports in the future. What DE you are using? Or you use just a tiling manager? Which package archive resources you use? Any external non Debian sources? What filesystem the home directory is using? Is the profile folder linked somewhere or is using some network path? How old is your current Thunderbird profile? How do you have setup a complete new user profile? Do have create also a complete new test user with a new home folder? Have you tried out an upstream TB binary? In both ways, within your home and within a complete fresh new home? What if you try a live system and create a fresh new profile? Is your current system a quite newly installed system or do you have an (dist-)updated system?

I've external source for chrome and for LTSP. The problem is there also with a newly created profile. The problem is not related to file position, i think. So it could be a program BUG and not a debian one. no. Only deleted old .thuderbird directory and restarted TB. As soon as i can I'll try! What do you mean with "upstream TB binary"? I've a dist-update system! ... production system used in our association by 12 persone on 6 fat-client. Giorgio

Here I am after many trials 1. Tried a completely new account -> KO 2. tried with a upstream TB binary --> KO 3. tried with a different WM (icewm) --> KO (both upstream binary and debian dist TB) SO I tried on a different machine, not upgraded to testing debian and ALL IS OK How can I figure OUT where the problem is? Further investigation (more disparate)... I've tried to launch TB vers. 102 .1.2 from an upstream binary, on a remote machine debian stable, but from a client with a testing debian (in a ssh terminal with X tunneling enabled). It works! So it seems it's not a problem related to X. I' ve all people blocked for this problem! Using webmail ... Any help? Hello Giorgio, Am 01.09.22 um 11:07 schrieb Giorgio Volpe: I currently tend to think there is something fishy within your system, maybe something miss configured or package version mixed up, you've written about some external included sources. It's quite impossible to debug anything from a remote side as your local system is like a black box for others as there is nothing really known except the information you are using XFCE on a sid system. There is no knowledge about used versions of the various packages. Some side note about the pre-compiled upstream TB versions, they come with all required libraries included, so it's not really something special that these versions are "really" working. But these versions can help to analyze if some internal functions might be broken in Debian as we use different application configuration than upstream. The menu Help provides some entries which can be used to get more information about the current profile and processes and used modules. Compare the output. In most cases the JS console helps to find out what missing or not fully working. Some kind of last resort is to prepare a new system on the same hardware! to see if this is also not working, than some hardware damage as reason for the malfunction is possible. It's quite unlikely that you are hitting by some serious bug in Thunderbird regarding X or wayland! There would be a lot more of bug reports.
Dear Maintainer, I add info fron reportbug ... Giorgio
Thanks a lot for the long and accurate answer! I agree that the problem probably is in some strange interaction between versions ... in a system that is the result of years of upgrade+dist-upgrade. The solution could be taking one day to rebuild it from scratch ... hoping one day is enough! :-) Let's try a last time. May be at a glance you see something strange!? Dear Maintainer,
I ran `apt-get update && apt-get upgrade` as usual. This pulled in an
upgrade to 'thunderbird' from version '1:91.13.0-1~deb11u1' to
`1:102.3.0-1~deb11u1`. This upgrade came as a security update:
paul@celebrimbor:~$ apt-cache policy thunderbird:
Installed: 1:102.3.0-1~deb11u1
Candidate: 1:102.3.0-1~deb11u1
Version table:
*** 1:102.3.0-1~deb11u1 500
500 http://security.debian.org/debian-security bullseye-security/updates/main amd64 Packages
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status
1:91.13.0-1~deb11u1 500
500 http://ftp.de.debian.org/debian bullseye/main amd64 Packages
paul@celebrimbor:~$
When starting 'thunderbird' I found that (seemingly) my configuration
had been lost. It looks like a completely new start, as if all
configuration information has been lost; however, I cannot confirm this.
Certainly, after the upgrade, my regular IMAP server configuration was
gone.
The IMAP server was available again after reconfiguring 'thunderbird'.
Cheers,
Paul.
On Debian 11 after apt upgrade from likely thunderbird:amd64 (1:91.13.0-1~deb11u1) to Thunderbird 102.3.0 (64-bit) i have seen some visual changes in UI and e-mail content was not loaded, so i have restarted TB and see that the unified Inbox (one folder for all e-mail accounts inboxes) is missing some of the latest e-mails which i have seen before TB restart. And indeed one of the mail accounts contains these missing e-mails, but it is not displayed in unified inbox. What helped: Right click unified Inbox folder and select Properties, then "Select the folders to search" (Choose button), tick all, or just all inboxes of all accounts. Why it not missed before and now is missing?! I guess this is developer failure that should be reported? I am guessing people will now accidentally miss their e-mail thanks to this.
A bit late, but I wanted to say that I had the same issue after upgrading one of my systems to Bookworm, but not on other two systems which are set up fairly similarly, at least one of which I've been upgrading since Woody. Also, on this system where the email folders wouldn't show, the issue was resolved by upgrading to the latest version 1:115.6.0-1~deb12u1, without any other changes made. Jaap
