   * What led up to the situation?
    trying about whith german Umlauten encoded with combining characters
   * What exactly did you do (or not do) that was effective (or
     ineffective)?
    i created a textfile that displays right in firefox, libreoffice and
    xterm, but wrong in gnome-terminal, gedit and konsole
   * What was the outcome of this action?
    i was confused on what software implements it right which wrong
    (guessing firefox, soffice and xterm doing it right but your modern
    open source stuff wrong, but am not sure)
   * What outcome did you expect instead?
    that all software would display it the same

thanks for looking in to this and hopefully fixing it

not so easy when send is the default thing to do instead

Your example file displays fine here with cat in konsole using the hack font (which IIRC is Plasma’s default for the fixed font).

Hello,
I am using Hack 9pt. To clarify, I do not see the umlaute shifted that
extremely as you can see at
https://bugsfiles.kde.org/attachment.cgi?id=109581, but rather
similarly to https://bugsfiles.kde.org/attachment.cgi?id=133560 (in
the substring "mac-Ö_ü_ä-test"). I use Debian Bookworm. This affects
both Konsole and Kate.
