Cross-platform on-the-fly encryption. VeraCrypt provides cross-platform
on-the-fly encryption for Linux, MacOS X and Windows. It can encrypt
filesystems stored either within a file or on disk partitions. Supported
encryption algorithms include AES, Serpent and Twofish. The current
version uses the XTS mode of disk encryption. In addition, VeraCrypt
supports "hidden volumes" - unidentifiable volumes present in the
free-space of a VeraCrypt volume.
VeraCrypt is a fork of the old TrueCrypt. I know there are official DEB
files for VeraCrypt provided on their Web site (link below), but it's
not a repository, and the only repositories I can find are unofficial
OBS ones (such as
https://download.opensuse.org/repositories/home:/unit193:/veracrypt). I
think this would technically be in contrib, since it uses non-free
code/licensing. Nonetheless, I think this would be a good addition to
the Debian repositories, as there aren't that many other viable
file/partition encryption alternatives. Thank you.
