This file differs from the file in a more current version of Debian. I wanted to confirm that Debian linux still had the apt/apt-get/?aptitude problems before writing to bugs.debian.org and this was a handy Debian machine. I should have considered that it was out of date, but it slipped my mind. However the problem was present on other Debian machines starting about 1.5 to 5 months ago, I chose this machine because it was available and had not been in use for some time. This machine is a intel atom dual core 1.6 gigacycle cpu with 4gb ram. About 3 weeks ago I had installed Debian Cinnamon on another machine to confirm the continued presence of the problem ( a 2.8 gigahertz dual core athlon 64 with 8 gigabytes of ram) but then used this machine for a Fedora installation to use to work out what would have to be done to port my current debian/ubuntu environment to run on Fedora.
