Steps to reproduce:
1. Install task-mate-desktop
2. Launch mate-display-properties to set display resolutions
3. Visually compare display proportions with mate-panel workspace switcher

Expected results:
* display ratios in mate-panel workspace switcher and mate-display-properties
are equal

Actual result:
* display ratios in mate-panel workspace switcher and mate-display-properties
are not equal

There is no such bug in Debian 10 and 11.

the previous libwnck behaviour was not consistent with GTK's API
requirements, causing warnings from GTK.

Hi,

this bug still affects trixie (mate-panel 1.27.1-4.1): the workspace
switcher applet shows each workspace with a 1:1 aspect ratio instead of
the aspect ratio of the screen.

It has been fixed upstream by this commit, which is part of mate-panel
1.27.3 and later:

The change touches a single file (applets/wncklet/workspace-switcher.c,
+153/-1). It wraps the WnckPager in a small container widget that
requests the pager's width for the panel height. Earlier in this bug,
smcv pointed to the equivalent fix in gnome-panel.

Attached is the commit as a patch with DEP-3 headers. To test it within
the Debian packaging, I built a local package from the trixie source
(1.27.1-4.1+armin1), with the patch added to debian/patches after 0006.
The whole series applies cleanly, and on trixie with libwnck 43.2-1 the
workspace switcher shows the correct aspect ratio again.

As a workaround I currently pin libwnck 3.36.0-1 from bullseye, which
is increasingly out of date. Would you consider applying the patch in
unstable, and possibly proposing it for a trixie point release?
