The "Software & Updates" GTK application has most of its strings untranslated in Debian in our (Czech) language although it is fully translated in Ubuntu.[1] When looking at the bug tracker, it looks like that many other language translations have the same problem.

When looking at the software-properties po files[2] at Debian Salsa GitLab, it looks like that they were never updated, only the pot template was.

I am not sure how translations of this component are handled in Debian, but please consider syncing them from Ubuntu.

Hey there,

Sorry but I think I forgot to follow up on the email but I've updated
the translations in the Vcs

It means the next time someone do an update in Debian the translations
should be included

The latest software-properties-gtk package (0.99.30-4.1) from Sid still has the following lines fully untranslated (in all languages, not only Czech):

Name=Software & Updates
GenericName=Software & Updates
Keywords=Drivers;Repositories;Repository;PPA;

This is most likely because 0.99.30 was released before the sync.

Sebastien, any chance a new software-properties version could be released before Trixie freeze? Thanks!

It looks like that there are new upstream software-properties releases (currently at version 0.108)[1], but only for Ubuntu. Debian is still stuck on 0.99.30 in Sid.

Hey Daniel,

I'm not involved in maintaining that package in Debian sorry. Checking
the PTS it seems the package was removed from testing so the
corresponding bug would needs to be investigated. Afaik we don't really
roll 'upstream' tarballs but just roll versions in Ubuntu, I'm not even
sure how suitable the current versions would be for Debian since over
the recent years we added support for Ubuntu Pro...

If no new upstream release for Debian is possible, adding the following commit as a Debian patch would also fix this issue:

The patch is bigger (because it contains ~15 years of translation updates, missing in Debian, of all po files), but I have verified that it applies cleanly and works correctly.

Yes as you can see I'm working on getting software-properties into a
somewhat working shape, but we're not really there yet.

No, I don't think so, there'll be no software-properties in trixie,
it's not feasible to update to the new version and fix all the RC
bugs today.
