Dear Maintainer,
* What led up to the situation?
I upgraded from bullseye to bookworm
* What exactly did you do (or not do) that was effective (or
ineffective)?
I started emacs and began editing a file.
* What was the outcome of this action?
The scroll bar flickered in an irritating and distracting manner if I typed
at any speed. It did not seem to flicker for a single isolated key stroke.
I know this sounds silly and picky, but having the flicker just outside
the area of the screen my eyes were focussing on was surprisingly
difficult to tolerate.
* What outcome did you expect instead?
To be able to type without being distracted by a flickering scrollbar.
(BTW, I selected the "affects users with a disability" option because I can
imagine there are conditions whose sufferers might find this bug a lot more
difficult to work with than I did.)
The obvious immediate fix for a user is to uninstall emacs-gtk and to
install emacs-lucid instead. The problem does not occur in emacs-lucid.
For further background I am running emacs in KDE, and using X rather than
Wayland.
Yours puzzledly,
Hugh Pumphrey
