   * What led up to the situation?

General update yesterday Aug13 2023.  After update wifi would not resume after sleep, though it worked on reboot.  System became very sluggish.

   * What exactly did you do (or not do) that was effective (or
     ineffective)?

Ineffective - wifi on/off. Select/deselct wifi device in Network Manager (DE KDE Plasma). nmcli reported device unavailable (20).  Effective - Reinstalled previous package version.

   * What was the outcome of this action?

Wifi currently works after sleep.

   * What outcome did you expect instead?

This was the hoped for outcome.

Hi

I applied the new package last night and left the system to sleep.

On waking the wifi was unavailable.

I attach two files  - dmesg after wake, and dmesg after rebooting.

After rebooting

Listing... Done
amd64-microcode/stable-security,now 3.20230719.1~deb12u1 amd64 [installed]
amd64-microcode/stable 3.20230414.1 amd64

NOTE - Yesterday before the new release I had reinstalled v
3.20230414.1, but
during sleep or on reboot, I can't tell which, the original v
3.20230917.1~deb12u1 seemed to have replaced it.

Tried to purge that version and force reinstall 20230414 , to no avail.

Did this just now..

I appreciate this is verging on support, but how to remove the Jul25
version
completely and replace with yesterday's?  I don't want to clean the entire
cache.

Have reinstalled 20230414.1 and put amd64-microcode on hold.  As a
result it does not now appear in Discover.  Pls advise when a new
version is available.

The fault seems to have 'spread' to the original driver.

As per previous post I marked the 3.20230414 for hold, but the problem
continued.

With apologies, it appears the issue is with the Mediatek chipset on my
device, not with the amd64 driver.

The issue is reportedly resolved here.

I have never yet patched a kernel, but I guess now is the time to learn.
