Dear Maintainer,

I have same problem. The  Golden Cheetah crashed repeatedly at the point just before it would
complete the import and switch to the main window.

I think that GDB backtrace can be useful

I have used version 3.6 from github and import some data. Then I have
started debain version 3.5 and all is work pretty good (and import of
data too). It's possible that there were problemv with creation dirs of
files in config or data directory.
