a minute or so before the screen starts fading to black because of inactivity, a notification appears saying the computer is going to suspend soon. about a minute later the screen starts darkening, after it's fully black, it wakes up immediately to display the notification on the lock screen. the screen turns off a few seconds later but doesn't actually suspend until some minutes.
