I've been trying to use pius to sign things, and it's completely
failing me:

gpg2 hasn't been around for a long time. but maybe we can work around

Nope! That doesn't work either! I have not dared to use the --keyring
argument to correct `.gnupg/pubring.kbx` keyring, for fear of
corruption, but clearly something is wrong here.

Yeah I would also like like to see this patched.

FWIW I've used --keyring and it didn't seem to corrupt the keyring or do
anything bad, but you can also test it yourself on a copy of your
keyring, the signatures thus produces will be just as valid.

Another thing that would be nice to fix upstream, or in the package at
least.
