After installation I did use a backport-kernel to get the wifi working. Maybe this could be corrected for Debian 12.5 of 12.6. lspci 00:00.0 Host bridge: Intel Corporation Device 4601 (rev 04) 00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation Alder Lake-UP3 GT2 [UHD Hello Paul, (...) (...) According to /usr/share/misc/pci.ids, this device has PCI ID 8086:51f0 which is listed in bookworm's iwlwifi module aliases. Can you post the output of the following commands after booting with kernel 6.1 ? lspci -nnkd ::280 dmesg | grep iwlwifi
Op 16-12-2023 om 22:16 schreef Pascal Hambourg: You are right, it has PCI ID 8086:51f0. I have tried it again, and cannot reproduce this problem. It works with the kernel of the installer. Sorry for the mistake. With regards, Paul van der Vlis
(...) What did you try exactly ? The installer or the kernel installed by the installer ? A mistake is hard to believe. Something happened. The 12.4 installer kernel has the wireless bug but it is uncertain whether it affects the installer or not. What was wrong with the integrated Intel wireless controller ? Do you still have the installer logs (/var/log/installer/syslog) ?
Could it be the issue that was fixed in kernel 6.1.67-1 (available in proposed updates)? https://micronews.debian.org/2023/1702664669.html
Hi Pascal, Op 17-12-2023 om 00:14 schreef Pascal Hambourg: Both. And both did work with wifi. At the install, the installer did not detect a network card. I tried the iwlwifi driver, but it did not work. Then I used an USB-to-network dongle. After the installation and a reboot the wifi still did not work. Then I installed the kernel from backports and then the wifi worked. Later after your mail I tried the first kernel again, and now it worked. Then I've tried the installer again till the network setup, and it also worked. failed with error -110" I see I did not use my Debian 12.4 stick, but a Debian 12.1 stick. It's a bit strange install, I did install on an external USB SSD. With regards, Paul
mailing list: the mail with attachment was too big for the mailing list) So it is not related with the recent wireless bug in 6.1.66. It may be an initialization issue: this error has been observed when booting after Windows hibernation or Fast Startup state. See https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=209641 https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=201319#c55 for possible workarounds if it happens again. When you tried the installer again, which version was it ? I do not think it is relevant.
Hello Pascal, and others, Op 17-12-2023 om 22:36 schreef Pascal Hambourg: Ah, maybe the next time better compressed... It was 1.1MB. There is Windows on the NVMe disk of the laptop. Fastboot and secureboot where off. My goal was to test if Debian would work fine without removing Windows, and it does. I have also tested if I could boot the installer with fastboot on or secureboot on. But that dit not work. Again 12.1, because I wanted to see if that the problem was. But it worked, even with 12.1. I think that too. So Linux hibernation worked fine using an USB disk. With regards, Paul van der Vlis
UEFI/BIOS "fast boot" is not the same as Windows "fast startup". Debian should work with secure boot on.
Hello Pascal and others, Op 17-12-2023 om 23:21 schreef Pascal Hambourg: I haven't changed anything in the bios, and I don't know Windows, if it started accidentally then I stopped it again. I have the machine to borrow from a dealer. Also the installer? I was interested and tried it. The Debian installer did not start with secure boot on. I've tried it again now and found in the bios an option "use Microsoft UEFI CA key". This option was off, when I turn it on the Debian installer did start with secure boot on. With regards, Paul
Paul van der Vlis <paul@vandervlis.nl> writes: Yes, this is a problem with many modern PCs. Quite frustrating as the failure mode is without any visible warnings or hints at all. I hit the same issue on a Lenovo Thinkpad a while ago: https://www.mail-archive.com/debian-laptop@lists.debian.org/msg54007.html I believe this is worth a note in the installation guide. Bjørn
