Hi Federico,

I noticed there is packaging work for niri on salsa under the rust
team (bug #1065355), and it looks like you may have been working on
it. The last activity was in September 2025 with the 25.08 upstream
import, and it hasn't yet reached an uploadable state.

Upstream has now moved to v25.11 and continues to be developed, and
I have heard multiple people state they would like to see this package
in Debian.

I've packaged some things for Debian before and would be happy to pick
up the packaging or assist with preparing it if you are no longer
actively working on it.

Are you still planning to continue with this, or would you be okay
with me taking over?

Thanks,
Michael

Hello Michael and thank you for your offer,

I've been working on packaging v 25.11 and I just pushed the update on
the repository on Salsa. The tricky part is packaging all the
dependencies using the https://salsa.debian.org/rust-team/debcargo-conf
workflow.
The Rust team uses IRC/Matrix to coordinate:
https://rust-team.pages.debian.net/book/ - please consider joining to
sync up on which crates to package.

Thanks!

Hi Federico,

I use niri and am interested in preparing a Debian package for
xwayland-satellite.

Before filling a separate ITP, I wanted to check whether packaging
xwayland-satellite is already planned or part of your packaging work.

Thanks,
Matt
