I have qtwayland5 5.15.10-2+b1 installed.  I do not have XWayland
installed at all.  I'm running from within a Wayland session, using sway
1.9-1 as a compositor.

When i try to launch libreoffice using the gtk4 VCLPLUGIN, i get a
complaint that it doesn't want to launch because there is no X11 error:

In this case, no libreoffice session starts up.

On the other hand, i get some warnings when using the qt5 plugin, but it
actually starts up with no problem:

I use other gtk applications (e.g. evince, audacity, inkscape, firefox)
in this same environment with no problems.
