#1074600 openarc: abandoned upstream

* The upstream openarc project has not had a commit to master branch
since Sept 21, 2018. (there is a develop branch last Oct 16, 2020)
* There are many unresolved issues in it's issue tracker
* It seems this implementation was mainly just experimental
* Debian updates are just packaging or policy related
* popcon shows only 20 installs

It's only in experimental currently, so maybe that's ok that it stay
there if someone cares enough, but otherwise I think it could be removed
from Debian.

Possible alternatives:
* fastmail's implementation
https://github.com/fastmail/authentication_milter RFP #1036235
* opendkim gained some ARC support in 1.4.0 (2021-01-28)
* rspamd has an ARC module, config is here
https://github.com/rspamd/rspamd/blob/master/conf/modules.d/arc.conf

Thanks,

Hi Matt,

From the page you referenced for "authentication_milter", it says that
the milter will /verify/; from that, I conclude it won't *sign* the ARC.

As far as the popcon count: as you say, it's only in "experimental", so
having a popcon count of 20 even seems *high*.

Regards,

Erik.

The Archlinux Wiki's OpenARC page [1] made me discover this actively
maintained fork: https://github.com/flowerysong/OpenARC

It may be interesting to switch to this upstream?

I would like to also ask that Debian changes upstream for package
OpenARC to the forked version by flowerysong.

That version is actively maintained, it has been brought up to date, it
has been improved, and appears to be backed by someone who did this for
$dayjob.

I have been building this project myself for my mail server, and would
be very pleased if that were no longer needed.

I tried to email the maintainer of the Debian OpenARC package, but his
email domain does not seem to exist anymore.

Kind regards,
Edmund Lodewijks

There is some work going on in
https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=1126523

and based on https://salsa.debian.org/mjeanson/openarc I have built the
package for trixie and available from
