With last being removed and "replaced" by wtmpdb, historical data is now inaccessible.

I couldn't find any other way to get that data back than to roll back to an older util-linux.

data files written on bookworm and earlier should be read using last
from bookworm and earlier.

Going forward this is not a problem, so I intend to spend none of my
free time on it.
