Package: puppet
Version: 7.23.0-1
Severity: wishlist

It would be great if puppet 7.25.0 or newer could be packaged for
bookworm. 7.25.0 adds an option, allow_pson_serialization, which may be
used to disable pson serialization. Puppet 8 removes pson serialization,
so it would be nice to be able to prepare for that change while still on
puppet 7.

Thanks for maintaining Puppet! Yours kindly, Jesse

different between the two versions. But several concerns that come to mind:

- The backport policy [0] states that "To guarantee an upgrade path from
stable+backports to the next stable, the package needs to be in
testing.". Does it only mean that the package "puppet-agent" must be in
testing, or that it must be in testing *and* the same version? In other
words, would we be allowed to upload a newer puppet 7 even though
testing has puppet 8? This should be clarified with the backports team.

- The updated puppet-agent package should avoid breaking the version of
puppetserver currently in bookworm

- If puppet-agent enters backports, someone will need to be responsible
for maintaining it in that suite and respond to security issues if they
arise.

Thanks,

Thanks for considering the request Jérôme, I didn't realize Debian
backports were so restrictive, no easy solutions come to mind.
