Back in July, the mirror operated by LIDSOL (Laboratorio de Investigación y
Desarrollo de Software Libre) at UNAM, the university I work at, was added to
the mirror list (lidsol.fi-b.unam.mx).

The mirror has been stable and usable, and we continue to monitor it.

Please add the ftp.mx.debian.org alias to it so it gets more visibility!
Currently ftp.mx.debian.org points to ftp.us.debian.org.

How is the mirror updated?

Our monitoring suggests that the mirror is running updates almost once
an hour, with a daily average of 22 different update times reported in
traces. You can see at
https://mirror-master.debian.org/status/mirror-info/lidsol.fi-b.unam.mx.html
that there are many update times that aren't near dinstall / mirror
push times.

we are working to improve the update process of our mirror at LIDSOL. We
are excited to have the ftp.mx.debian.org name directed to our deployment.

We want to make sure we have enough capacity to serve this endpoint. Do you
happen to have any telemetry regarding DNS resolution activity for
ftp.mx.debian.org? If you have it and would share this information with
us, we would greatly appreciate it. Perhaps with information for another
domain as baseline.

It looks like the update timings issue mentioned above got resolved,
but that there have been update problems again recently. Looking at the
above URL, it looks like there were no updates between November 30th
(maybe 29th) and the start of December 3rd. Do we know what happened
there?

The operators of the Debian mirror we have in Mexico City have been keeping an
eye on its operation; I have kept it as my main mirror for my personal computers
for several months, and I can assert it is stable and up to date. You can check
in the URL you shared earlier in this bug report, and it has been consistently
up to date (with a quick check, I see maximums of ~4.5hr).

Please consider updating the alias so that ftp.mx.debian.org points at
lidsol.fi-b.unam.mx! It will be a big motivator for the students, starting with
their free software contribution career!
