Set a local event and toggle a 5 minutes before reminder with sound on

     ineffective)?
Checked relevant log messages if there was any, set an alarm from gnome-clocks
see if it is a global missing package issue

   * What was the outcome of this action?
Alarm set from gnome-clocks has a sound, it's just the event reminders from
gnome-calendar has no sound

Event reminder with alarm on has sound
