This MR https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/xorg/xserver/-/merge_requests/1608 fixes
the assertion crashes that have been occurring in various situations for
numerous people, especially when booting in a VM (qemu and virtualbox IIRC). I
tested Matthew's PPA given in
https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/xorg/xserver/-/issues/1053#note_2525347 with the
patch applied and it works niceley : )

The crash doesn't seem to occur on trixie (21.1.14+) so that is good..

Would be great to not leave bookworm crashing in VMs ever after .. 🙏
