On a OnePlus6 running Mobian I get pipewire using 4 CPU cores which
results in the phone being hot to the touch and having it's battery
drain fast.  This only happened after updating to the latest Testing
packages and rebooting.

I have rebooted this a second time and had the same issue reoccur.

The following is from "journalctl -f" when pipewire is taking excessive

I currently can't reproduce the situation of taking more than 1 CPU core.  I
didn't do anything differently, just rebooted it a day later and got different
results.

Now I'm seeing the following, not a huge amount of CPU time, but more than
expected from an idle system with the screen locked and nothing happening.

The pipewire-pulse program is looking on an eventfd and writing to a socket in
a fairly tight loop.

As for plasmashell, what it does is more complex and I'm not sure if it's
connected to the pipewire CPU use.

For desktop use probably most people would be happy to let these processes use
1% CPU time each for as long as the system is used.  For even a laptop this
probably isn't a problem.  But for a phone it's a real problem.

I've had the same problem again on that phone but not had it happen on my
other OP6.  So I think that there may be a hardware issue causing the kernel
issue.

But I still believe that there is a bug in pipewire.  In spite of the kernel
misbehaving the daemon should still be able to act in a reasonable manner -
which may mean just refusing to use the sound hardware in question.

happens sometimes. I haven't figured out what the trigger is/could be.

I have a Pine64 Quartz64 Model A, which is my headless 'build server'
and some days ago I noticed a high CPU usage too. This didn't make any
sense to me is there is nothing audio related connected to the device.

Looking at htop showed me that next to pipewire, there was this:

When I restarted pipewire, things seemed to have normalized a bit, but
not completely (subjectively).

It's a mystery to me why there is a fluidsynth stream ...
I'm still not sure whether this is a pipewire or a fluidsynth bug, but
there is https://bugs.debian.org/1075976 which seems similar/related.

1. You're not the only one
2. There is something going on which doesn't look good, although I have
   no idea how/what/why/etc

Dear Maintainer,

Imma be real I don't know much about this bug reporting system but I figured an improperly formatted bug report was better than none.

I have a similar issue on a laptop. Since a recent update, my computer has been running super hot, and I noticed that pipewire is constantly using 6.2% CPU no matter what.

The only thing that gets my goshdarn fan to shut up for a second is sudo killall pipewire (or the gui equivalent).
