Dear Maintainer,

after upgrading to the latest kmail version, all date fields of all emails are blank. I neither see dates in the list/tree view (there's an empty column), nor in the page view of the mail itself (it says "Date: ", followed by nothing) → see screen shot.
During the upgrade, a note briefly popped up saying something about migration problems, but I do not recall what it said exactly.
However, the source view of the email shows the date (so I believe the data has not been erased, but the GUI is for some reason unable to read it).
This affects all emails across all folders (IMAP folders, local folders as well as folders from an EWS resource).
When clicking the header of the date column, the sort order still changes, but I don't know how they are sorted.

Without seeing when an email was written nor being able to see the chronological flow of a conversation, kmail as an email reader is practically useless.

Maybe it is some small stupid error, or I've missed something (hopefully); in which case I'll update the bug report.

All the best, Jacob.

Have you tried changing the view/design of both your list view and your
message header ? Maybe you are using a design that is not compatible
with the new kmail any more.

You can change it in View -> Message List -> Theme and in View ->
Headers.

Hi Patrick, thanks for your reply!

In the list view, none of the options (Classic / Smart / Smart with clickable status) show the date. When I click the option to create my on list theme, the selector shows empty columns for both the "date" and the "date most recent in subtree".

In the message view, "Fancy" does not show dates, "Brief" does indeed show a date (although not formatted according to my settings), and "Breeze material dark" does not show a date. "KMail 5" shows a date. Downloading new headers ("Kmail flat nice") also shows a date, also wrongly formatted.

Unfortunately the date in the list view is the more important one. Could this be some kind of locale/formatting/whatever mismatch?

All the best, Jacob.

It could be, but I have to admit that I don't know the inner workings of
kmail in that regard. It seems though thAT you're not the only one
suffering from this bug: https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=485187

Seems to be a general kmail problem and not a Debian problem.

I am running KMail 4:24.12.0-2 from testing and have not experienced this problem. It is
unclear to me what would be different in your setup from mine. I am using both X11 and
Wayland without this issue. All my hardware has AMD GPUs, which probably doesn’t
matter, but there is an off chance there may be some GPU driver or firmware component
to the problem. I use the sqlite Akonadi backend, although I doubt that would be the core
of the issue either.
