Dear Debian wpasupplicant Maintainers,

Testing (trixie) currently ships wpa 2.10. FYI, upstream released 2.11
on July 20th 2024:
https://w1.fi/cgit/hostap/plain/wpa_supplicant/ChangeLog.

While I am not aware of any release schedule and EOL policy for
wpa, I would say that the more recent release can be included in
trixie, the better. And the easier would be to provide security updates
to the users during the trixie life cycle.

Do you have any plans to upload to wpa to unstable (before the trixie
freeze)?

If you need or want help packaging this more recent upstream version,
please don't hesitate to speak up. Someone from the LTS team, may be
interested in contributing (CC'ing debian-lts).

Best regards,

Hi Santiago & wpa maintainer,

I’m not a maintainer but am working on packaging a more recent
upstream version of wpa for unstable, as requested by customers to
support WIFI 7. Since the Trixie soft freeze started on April 15,
2025, is it possible that we put the new version into Trixie?

I’d welcome any support or guidance from the LTS team or maintainers,
especially since I’m doing this package for the first time . Please
let me know if you’d like to collaborate or if there’s anything
specific I should focus on. Thanks

May I ask for an update on the chances of getting 2.11 (and WiFi 7) into
Trixie?

Hello,

We're in a deep freeze, so 2.11 will not be getting into Trixie.

I would also like to update to version 2.11.

When I used wpasupplicant 2:2.10-25, I could not connect to a Wi-Fi network
generated by a 4G router. However, I was able to connect after replacing it
with iwd 3.10-1. Perhaps this issue has been resolved in the latest version
of wpasupplicant. Could you please update to this version?

Best,
Amr
