Dear Maintainer, Dovecot 2.4.0 has been much anticipated and is released. Announcement: https://dovecot.org/mailman3/archives/list/dovecot-news@dovecot.org/thread/UYNR6GBP25XEGFCS633SWPR4HXV3NSS3/ Upgrade Details: https://doc.dovecot.org/2.4.0/installation/upgrade/2.3-to-2.4.html Includes built-in full-text-indexing, better security options, UTF8 support improvements and more. Some breaking config changes are in there as well. Would love to see 2.4.0 in testing and ultimately in trixie.
This in the works (see [1] and [2]), but the config file changes cause some problems. The fact that upstream doesn't provide a working example config equivalent to the one provided with 2.3.x does help. If you'd like to contribute, porting the old default config to the new version would be extremely helpful. noah 1. https://salsa.debian.org/debian/dovecot/-/merge_requests/43 2. https://salsa.debian.org/debian/dovecot/-/tree/pkg-rename?ref_type=heads
I've just uploaded dovecot 1:2.4.0+dfsg1-1~exp1 to experimental. Please test to the extent that you're able. I did *not* go ahead with the previously proposed package rename (at least not yet), so the binary packages are still named dovecot-* Note also that there appear to be build issues on (at least) i386, which look on first glance like they're related to the 64 bit time_t change. I'm not sure it's worth fixing those, but am happy to hear other opinions and/or review patches. noah
Please [...] Hi Noah, thanks for doing the 2.4 upload. I just backported it to my arm64 bookworm mail server. The update wasn't that smooth with all the config changes needed. And I had to recompile exim with this patch from upstream: https://dovecot.org/mailman3/archives/list/dovecot@dovecot.org/thread/NOUF5J4K4F7FPQ73FWAFGAMXOMZIOUE3/#ISAVM5BAIDUDAA5YTVY337AHK36KGIB6 Else Exim Authentication via Dovecot doestn't work. Now it's working fine. Though it's only a small system. Cheers Felix
Thanks. I'm not sure what we can realistically do about that, unfortunately. It's not feasible to write a configuration translation tool, and I don't think upstream intends to produce one, either. Thanks; I saw that on the mailing list and will request that it be applied in the Debian packages (if it hasn't been already) Thanks, I appreciate the feedback. Which dovecot-* packages do you use? noah
