#1095750 linux-image: 6.9 to 6.12 in backports does not boot in QEMU: `Invalid ELF header magic: != ⌂ELF`

Dear Debian folks,


After upgrading a virtual system from Debian 10/buster (oldoldstable) to
Debian 11/bullseye (oldstable) and then Debian 12/bookworm (stable),
installing a Linux kernel from the suite *bookworm-backports*, the
system does not boot and prints the messages below:

     [    0.591136] Invalid ELF header magic: != ⌂ELFbuilt.qemu.org)
     initramfs: Couldn't load /virtio_blk.ko.xz: Exec format error
     [    0.591915] Invalid ELF header magic: != ⌂ELF
     initramfs: Couldn't load /scsi_common.ko.xz: Exec format error
     [    0.592671] Invalid ELF header magic: != ⌂ELF
     initramfs: Couldn't load /scsi_mod.ko.xz: Exec format error
     [    0.593377] Invalid ELF header magic: != ⌂ELF
     initramfs: Couldn't load /sd_mod.ko.xz: Exec format error
     [    0.594042] Invalid ELF header magic: != ⌂ELF
     initramfs: Couldn't load /virtio_mmio.ko.xz: Exec format error

*linux-image-6.1.0-30-cloud-amd64* 6.1.124-1 boots fine.

Image is started with the command below:

     qemu-system-x86_64 --enable-kvm -name jitsi -cpu host -m 8G -smp 12
-drive file=jitsi.004.disk,discard=on,if=virtio -net 
nic,model=virtio-net-pci,macaddr=52:c6:11:00:00:18 -net
tap,ifname=tap.jitsi,script=/bin/true,downscript=/bin/true
