Hi Is the plan to get gcc-15 into Trixie forky as default) ? There are some bugs that should be fixed on these mostly legacy codes (the DO loop work). The FTBFS is due to mod files changing format in gfortran-14/gfortran-15. Dh-fortran-mod manages the mod files in different directories to support a package shipping multiple mod files, but some additional changes are needed to enable the automatic build for multiple compiler versions. If desired I can push that work so the relevant packages support both compiler versions in Trixie. trixie forky? ;) No, trixie will only have gcc-14 (and most likely gcc-13). Assuming that trixie will unfreeze in summer, GCC will be made the default GCC. And a year later, doing the same with GCC 16. I saw the change in the format, but didn't yet investigate. Yes, it would be nice to get these updates ready for the GCC 15 transition. Do we really need support for two module versions in parallel? Or dow we "just" need to rebuild stuff for the defaults change? Matthias

Matthias Its nice to have the “old” libraries / stack work with gcc-15; ie Assuming a 2-year cycle, I expect a Trixie release this summer; I use Debian stable as the base of Apptainer / Docker containers at work; it would be nice to be able to build against Trixie with gcc-15; for this any packages that ship gfortran mod files (less than a dozen, IIRC) should be built with both compiler versions.
