More or less since the below described upgrade, when I open certain
PDFs in xpdf, screen freezes. /var/log/Xorg.0.log (attached) shows
that the X server abort()ed with a backtrace showing it happened in
libgallium

version) did not solve the issue

Are you able to test with the older kernel? Does it work with a wayland
compositor/xwayland?

Reproduced running kernel
  6.11.7-amd64 #1 SMP PREEMPT_DYNAMIC Debian 6.11.7-1 (2024-11-09)
from package linux-image-6.11.7-amd64 version 6.11.7-1

No. Essentially the same abort() with similar backtrace. I attach the
stdout/stderr of Xwayland.

Okay, thanks for checking. Then I guess you'd need to at least test
building the upstream 25.0.3, 25.0.4 releases, if not bisect.

there's also 25.1.0 in experimental to try out.

However *this* upgrade (all installed packages of mesa and drm to
*experimental* version) seems to have solved the issue.
