This looks like launched in a session not in the correct environment, but it's
been too long I've debugged this. Could you describe in more verbose terms
(which desktop environment, which session, environment variables set or not,
etc), for someone else to reproduce this?

Kate has no problem; it started correctly.

- I have a macOS
- macOS run orbstack, orbstack run Debian-13
- tigerVNC in Debian-13
- use NoMachine as client to visit the tigerVNC
- GNOME Session in tigerVNC
