That said, please do read the patch you provided - it is absurd: I fail
to see how the package "precious" currently is incapable of building
with which v8, and I fail to see how your patch does *anything* to
improve the situation - I can only see it as *restricting* which version
the cargo hinting accepts, while still hinting in the Debian packaging a
wider acceptance range.

Please do tell if I am missing something here.
