Dear Maintainer,

I run bookworm and keep it fairly up-to-date, and I do have backports enabled
(to get some USB fixes in 6.12).

For more than a few years (this goes back 5-10 years), when I start liferea,
the headline pane gets a random size (or it's the content pane; don't know
which). Sometimes just one or two headlines appear and sometimes the headline
pane is maximized (content pane is minimized); it's always between those two
extremes.

Worse, this behavior seems to come and go with releases and updates. When I
first started using it years ago, it was well behaved. At some point, it
started this misbehavior. A few months ago, it started to behave properly, but
the last time it was updated for bookworm (I think; a couple/three weeks ago),
it started randomly sizing the headline pane again when starting the program.

All I have is pure conjecture: off-by-one, some variable clobbering another,
saved sizes not read on startup, something left uninitialized, something
unrelated to liferea.

That it hasn't been reported until now makes me wonder if I'm the only one
affected.

One semi-related oddity (which probably should be a separate report, but
included here because this is where I have encountered it): when the headline
pane is maximized (or content pane minimized), the draggable border is left
with *one* pixel row to grab it. Perhaps the headline pane should be limited to
3-4 pixels fewer to give, mmm, shaky users a better chance to grab the
draggable border.

Thanks for reporting issues, and sorry I didn't reply before.


We haven't updated liferea in the last couple of stable releases, so if
this happens because of stable updates, it should be something lower in
the stack than liferea itself. Unless I misunderstand you.

I'm not sure what to do with this report other than forwarding it
upstream, which I encourage to do yourself, such that you can reply to
questions when they arise. Please link the bug if you do, such that I
can cherry-pick a fix.
