Sorry to put this as critical, but I've been trying to get this fixed for
2 months now. I emailed the listmaster@lists.debian.org from another
email address, and I got no response.

Here's what happens. My email address, that I use for everything linux
related, is echo@thebucket.org. lists.debian.org eats any email I send
from this address. I've created debian@thebucket.org and it can subscribe
fine. I can't subscribe to any lists, and apparently I can't send anyone
at lists.debian.org email (although that's yet to be proven, they could
be ignoring me). I've asked countless people on irc.debian.org #debian
and no ones has had any clue.. Please take a look at this and figure this
out! I'm begging here... :) I don't want to have another email address to
check just for debian stuff.... I've tried subscribing from the web
interface, and from sending an email... I just simply get no replies back.

HELP! I love debian, and I want to become a package maintainer some day, but
I've got to get in there and start watching and learning before I dive into
that!

The lists at lists.debian.org are managed by SmartList, and it rejects
the "echo" address. In the file rc.submit I see the following:

# The following recipe makes sure that:
# The mail has a sane size (i.e. it is not inordinately big)
# It does not look like an administrative request.
# It wasn't sent by this list itself.
# It wasn't sent by a daemon (misdirected bounce message perhaps).

As you can see, there is a regular expression that catches "echo" as
an invalid email address. Most probably this is to prevent mail loops,
so I would recommend not to change it.

This is a feature more than a bug.

Just use another address.

Hope this helps.

Unlikely you emailled us, as, echo@ gets eaten before it gets delivered.

Yes that is by design - echo, admin, nobody, root, postmaster and a host
of other LHS addresses can not be subscribed to.

Yes, that one can. You should also be able to post from that address.

Yup, they get eaten by smartlist - by design.

I'll have to talk this over with the other listmasters before I make any
changes to accomodate this.
