Dear maintainer(s),

Your package has an autopkgtest, great. However, the last run(s) in
testing on amd64 failed [1]. Can you please investigate the situation
and fix it?

The release team has announced [2] that failing autopkgtest on amd64 and
arm64 are considered RC in testing.

If you believe the failure is related to the infrastructure rather than
the test of the package, don't hesitate to reach out to the ci-team on
IRC (#debci on oftc) or via debian-ci@lists.debian.org.

Paul

PS: this bug submission was largely automated, please contact me if you
think I should improve my workflow.

Hi,

I'll now start looking into this issue (I just triaged and solved the other RC bug issue).

Please don't remove the package yet...

With kind regards,
Roland Clobus

Hi,

This is a mail to show my progress for this issue.

I've seen errors for command2, command4, command7 and command8.

I see a strange message at 361s in https://ci.debian.net/data/autopkgtest/unstable/amd64/d/debian-edu/72753929/log.gz

```
01 361s Setting up mariadb-server (1:11.8.8-1) ...
02 361s Creating group 'mysql' with GID 979.
03 361s Creating user 'mysql' (MariaDB Server) with UID 979 and GID 979.
04 361s id: 'mysql': no such user
05 361s find: non-numeric argument to -uid: ''
06 361s chown: invalid user: 'mysql:adm'
07 361s chown: invalid user: 'mysql:adm'
08 361s chown: invalid user: 'mysql'
09 361s dpkg: error processing package mariadb-server (--configure):
10 361s  old mariadb-server package postinst maintainer script subprocess failed with exit status 1
```

The user and group was created, but in line 4 of this paste, the user was not found...
The error comes from the postinst https://sources.debian.org/src/mariadb/1%3A11.8.8-1/debian/mariadb-server.postinst#L178

I've posted this question to #debci (and meanwhile requested a rebuild)

I've also been running the autopkgtest with an unshare backend for forky and sid. All commands return a pass (even though the log files mention lots of missing access rights).

```
mmdebstrap --variant=buildd --arch=amd64 --skip=output/mknod --format=tar forky /home/roland/.cache/sbuild/forky-amd64.tar --aptopt='Acquire::http { Proxy "http://127.0.0.1:3142"; }'
reset;clear;time autopkgtest --apt-upgrade -- unshare --release forky -d -d -d
```

With the latest run [1], the mariadb-server issue is not shown.

On the latest run [1], only command4 (PROFILE=Roaming-Workstation DESKTOP=kde debian/tests/test-metapkgs) is failing, with a similar pattern.

```
2106s Setting up udev (261.2-1) ...
2107s Creating group 'input' with GID 984.
2107s Creating group 'sgx' with GID 983.
2107s Creating group 'clock' with GID 982.
2107s Creating group 'kvm' with GID 981.
2107s Creating group 'render' with GID 980.
2107s /usr/lib/tmpfiles.d/static-nodes-permissions.conf:19: Failed to resolve group 'kvm': Unknown group
2107s /usr/lib/tmpfiles.d/static-nodes-permissions.conf:20: Failed to resolve group 'kvm': Unknown group
2107s dpkg: error processing package udev (--configure):
2107s  old udev package postinst maintainer script subprocess failed with exit status 65
```

Is something creating a race-condition between the creation of the user and the check for the existence of the user?

The answers at #debci point to:
1) The incus backend is using tmpfs, which might cause timing differences
2) The debci tests use incus instead of unshare (unshare does not have an init system)

Next step: use incus for autopkgtest

With kind regards,
Roland Clobus
