Hi Michael,

From the subject I understand it failed to install. Can you please
provide the full log from the update?

Regards,
Salvatore

Hi Michael,

Thanks for providing those. I'm quoting them since your reply did not
reach the bugreport.

There seem to be at least third-party packages as well which are not
from a Debian source. But I suspect they are not the problem. Can you
post as well the term.log from apt (found in /var/log/apt/term.log*).

I would as well be interested to see what the package status is for
the packages installed on the system (dpkg -l would be helpful).

Regards,
Salvatore

The issue was caused by linux-image-6.17.8+deb13-amd64 being stuck in a
half configured state, which caused all subsequent dpkg transactions to
fail. Once the kernel package was cleaned up and reconfigured successfully
(including fixing the underlying /boot state and rerunning initramfs/grub),
the issue resolved and package installation works normally again.
This does not appear to be a kernel packaging bug but a local system state
issue compounded by PackageKit retries.

Hi Michael,

Yes that is indeed *very* helpful!

In the above you can see:

Autoinstall on 6.17.8+deb13-amd64 was skipped for module(s) 8812au rtl8821cu.

there is no such dkms package in Debian as far I can see, so this must
be some external one, but that is not the ultimate cause as this will
be skipped. But the second is:

Autoinstall on 6.17.8+deb13-amd64 failed for module(s) broadcom-sta(10).

and earlier in the log you see:

So the issue is in broadcom-sta-dkms. It *might* be the same as #1117463 but
for that we need to see the
/var/lib/dkms/broadcom-sta/6.30.223.271/build/make.log . Can you please attach
this to this bug please?

Regards,
Salvatore

Michael please do not write only directly to me, but always include
the bug address as well.
