Dear Maintainer,

Since updating from Debian 12 to Debian 13, my PC has been experiencing repeated kernel freezes (about 1 to 2 times a day). To find the reason, I configured the log files so that they are not deleted when the system is restarted. Unfortunately, I couldn't find anything in them. My first attempt was to install newer kernels from experimental. This did not solve the problems.

My solution now is to use a kernel from Debian 12. This runs reliably.

The kernel freeze problem also occurs on another PC.

The systems I use are: Tuxedo InfinityBook Pro 14v5 N14xCU and Tuxedo InfinityBook Pro 15 Gen9 Model IBP15A09MK1 GX5HRXG

Hello,

When you say the kernel freeze, does the machine still respond to pings?
Does enabling the keyboard backlight (if available) and NumLock still
work? What about pressing Alt+PrtSc+b?

Can you try installing kernels packaged by Debian from between Debian 12
and Debian 13 from https://snapshot.debian.org/ to find the newest
kernel that still works and the oldest broken one?

I added Werner Sembach to Cc:, maybe he has an idea or even seen this
before.

thank you.

I have installed a more recent kernel again (6.17.8+deb13-amd64) and am
now waiting for the next freeze. Then I can tell you more.

That could take a long time, even with binary search. The error only
occurs sporadically.

Yesterday there were no freezes. Today I had the first one after about 3
hours.

After the freeze, the laptop was no longer visible in web interface of
the router.

The backlight could still be turned on and off. I don't have NumLock.

It didn't work anymore.

Hi,

I have tested several kernels. Kernel 6.6.8 does not boot. Kernel 6.8.11
starts up, but has the freeze bug. The same applies to kernel 6.12.6.

It can sometimes take up two days or more for the first freeze to occur.
There is no apparent cause; it seems to be completely random.

Kernel 6.1.0-35-amd64, however, runs absolutely stable.
