Hi,

as accountsservice releases are pretty infrequent and the new version
has nice new things like homed support I thought I'd mention that
there's a new release:

Control: retitle -1 accountsservice: New upstream release 26.27.3
Control: affects -1 + gnome-control-center gnome-initial-setup

There have been considerably more new releases since then, but the
current uscan configuration doesn't pick them up, and as of 26.27.3
there are no more dist tarball uploads: the only source artifacts that
are released are the upstream git repo, and the tarball autogenerated by
Gitlab (which should be functionally equivalent).

gnome-control-center and gnome-initial-setup currently have patches
applied to revert dependencies on the new accountsservice, which could
be removed if the new release is packaged.

I've been doing intermittent team uploads on accountsservice to fix RC
bugs and other obvious packaging issues, but I'd prefer not to be
responsible for new upstream releases, sorry - I think this
security-sensitive package deserves more attention than I can provide.

Guido,

Please see Simon's reply at https://bugs.debian.org/1129249

I also don't have enough capacity to work on updating accountsservice.
I gave you commit access on Salsa now if you want to handle the
update.

Thank you,
Jeremy Bícha

Hi Jeremy,

Thanks. I'll put proposing a merge request onto my list then. I'm happy
to help with keeping it in shape.

I was able to successfully build from accountsservice git (88e3de5) on
Unstable.

Just documenting, if that helps.

Removed all 4 upstream patches.

- implicit-funcs.patch
- git_user_manager.patch
- git_default_gdm.patch
- tests-s-assertEquals-assertEqual.patch

3 debian patches.

[OK] debian/no-check-format.patch
[needs rework] debian/Create-and-manage-groups-like-on-a-debian-system.patch
[remove?] debian/generate-version.sh-Use-the-version-number-from-the-
packa.patch

A new "test-generate-version.py" test was recently introduced, so the
"debian/generate-version.sh...patch" doesn't apply.

Ran into random test failures, but built the ".debs" on subsequent attempts.

Also, it might be good idea to introduce this in experimental before unstable
(considering security).

Thanks!

Hi,

I've created an experimental branch in that repo to not interfere with
what is in sid and added an MR here:

https://salsa.debian.org/freedesktop-team/accountsservice/-/merge_requests/7

If that looks o.k. I'd upload to experimental (which will trigger new processing due to
the new soname) to ease testing.

Cheers,
