I clicked on the second, third, etc. desktop workspace icon on the panel
causes
white screen instead of normal background.

thanks for the report. I can't reproduce it with the information
available, so I need a few more details:

1. Is it a Cinnamon session on X11 or on Wayland?
2. Which graphics card and driver are you using? The output of `lspci -k
| grep -A3 -E 'VGA|3D'` is enough.
3. Is the background a single image or a slideshow?
4. Does the same happen when switching workspace with the keyboard
(Ctrl+Alt+Left/Right)?
5. Does the white background stay, or does the wallpaper come back after
a while?
6. Are there any errors in ~/.xsession-errors after reproducing it?
