I like to suggest that jupyter-labextension be moved to separate package so
that users that do not need it do not have to install it with all its
dependencies.

To split off the jupyter-labextension would be good since the package
jupyter-notebook starting with version 7 now depends on juypterlab (see #1131929).
Therefore, I support this wish.

If you want to help, do not hesitate to contribute to the package and
commit into the salsa repository.

jupyterlab is a complex package by its number of dependencies, any help
is very welcome.
