Hi,

I would be interested in helping with plotly, following the
Package Salvaging procedure outlined in the Developers Reference[1].

I've been NMU'ing the other package "python-mido" of yours many
times already but the changes I envision for "plotly" does not belong in a NMU:
I'd like to split-out the tiny javascript runtime library from the main Python package
to be able to use it in a standalone fashion on embedded edge servers.

This would happend after first upgrading to 6.6.0.


I believe the package would be a great addition to the Python Team
where I plan to further maintain it.

for you information I have a fork on Salsa with 6.5.2

which can be used as a starting point.

I have tried getting in touch privately with the current maintainer to inform him about my
(at this point, our) availability. First attempt was dated March 2, second
attempt has been done today April 12.

Maybe.  I learned about plotly because of a preliminary investigation
into hledger-sankey which is tested with plotly 6.x and not 5.x.  Sankey
generates visual expense reports--they're a great low-effort way of
coming up with a better strategy for finances.

it has been a while since your last reply (Wed, 06 May 2026), when you merged my changes and mentioned that you were planning to do an upload soon.

Plotly just released a couple of days ago version 7.0.0.

I packaged it and pushed it to gitlab salsa.
I also added Alexandre and myself as uploaders, since at some point you mentioned that you were willing to add me there.
This must of course be double checked by you :)

I have NOT uploaded to unstable/experimental (the version is currently marked 1~exp1). Please review the changes, delete us from uploaders if you DO NOT agree with that, and do the upload.
A possible alternative option would be to involve the Python team, as mentioned by Alexandre in his first message.

I would appreciate a feedback as soon as possible, because this is blocking #1074333.
I have had Kaleido ready for a few months at

and today I upgraded it to 1.3.0. However, I can't upload it to NEW because it requires plotly to be upgraded first.
