Dear maintainer(s),

I noticed that package gerris recommends gfsview, which is currently not
available in unstable.

See:

The source package "gfsview" has there binaries: gfsview-batch,
libgfsgl-dev and libgfsgl0t64.

Perhaps gerris should recommend gfsview-batch? Or perhaps it used to be
a package named "gfsview" that doesn't exist anymore.

Would it make sense to remove or update it?

Thank you for your time,

Dear Carles,

Thanks for the warning. From

https://tracker.debian.org/pkg/gfsview

it seems that the problem comes from:

uscan had problems while searching for a new upstream version:

In watchfile debian/watch, reading webpage
http://gerris.dalembert.upmc.fr/gerris/tarballs/ failed: 500 Can't
connect to gerris.dalembert.upmc.fr:443 (certificate verify failed)

I checked and there is indeed a problem with the certificate.

I will fix it and tell you when it is done.

It would be good to have gfsview (and gfsview-batch) back in testing.

thanks for your help,

Stephane

The problem with the certificate should be fixed now.

What else can I do to help?

cheers,

Hi,
just a "tangencial" bug :-) )

The bug is that the package "gerris" is recommending a binary package
"gfsview" which is not available in unstable. You are comenting why the
"gfsview" is not in unstable, which to me is related but a different
issue.

I think that no "gfsview" binary package exists (there is
"gfsview-batch", "libgfsgl-dev" and "libgfsgl0t64" built from source
package gfsview).

I'll get in touch with you by email in a moment to make sure that we are
discussing the same.

In this bug: the bug is for "gerris" and I suggest to stop recommending
a package that does not exist (or recommend another one).

I've found more information.

gfsview source package used to build gfsview binary package. The binary
package was dropped here:

https://salsa.debian.org/science-team/gfsview/-/commit/939ab45f052e69ffbefe8e54d3760c562b8f4ff2

To close:

https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=967389

I think that gerris should stop Recommending gfsview binary package that
stopped existing some time ago.

Stephane and I will discuss without this bug any other steps regarding
gfsview package.

Cheers and thanks!
