I've used apt-cacher for the last years, amongst others during the
development of Trixie. I stayed on Trixie until today, now I want to
upgrade to Forky.

I update apt.source.d/ accordingly and the first 14% work as expected.
But then the download stalls:

This is reproducible, if I change mirrors. If I bypass apt-cacher, i.e. enter the Debian mirror
directly, the download happens.

Running
systemctl restart apt-cacher.service
does not change the behaviour.

Howver, theses lines  appears for older invocations as well, when I
was getting security updates without problems.

There is enouugh space in the cacher directory as well as in /var/cache/apt/archives.

In the system log I get:

2026-05-14T12:19:11.967237+02:00 twentytwo systemd[1]: apt-cacher.service: Found left-over process 1436036 (apt-cacher) in control group while starting unit. Ignoring.
2026-05-14T12:19:11.967295+02:00 twentytwo systemd[1]: apt-cacher.service: This usually indicates unclean termination of a previous run, or service implementation deficiencies.

I will soon switch to direct download, as I scheduled my time today for the upgrade.

I let it runnning for some time, and now it continues, but very

Just to be sure I understand correctly, the apt-cacher server is on the same box that
is being upgraded?

Did you upgrade  apt-cacher to forky first?

This suggests not -- it is the trixie version

Other than the addition of a systemd unit, there are no changes from trixie to
forky. I suppose something else might have changed to break apt-cacher.

I suggest upgrade apt-cacher before apt upgrade.

Well, sometime in the afternoon, after several restarts, it suddently
started downloading all packages. Since I ran out of time today (I
expected the download to be a matter of minutes, not hours), I will
perform the update probably on Sunday.
